Nissan Navara Sport Edition 2017 Review
With the intense competition across the entire automotive industry, it pays to keep a product fresh to continuously one-up its rivals. That's exactly what Nissan has done with the new Navara Sport Edition. It is a new variant of Nissan's award-winning pickup that contains new exterior and interior design elements that target urbanites.
The Nissan Navara Sport Edition is immediately distinguishable by its more aggressive exterior. Upfront, it features a new honeycomb grille, front skirt, and fog lamps wrapped in a dark chrome finish. This sporty treatment then continues onto the side steps and rear bumpers which are also finished in dark chrome. At the back, the cargo hold is treated to a durable under rail bed liner and a sports roll bar complete with a cargo lamp. And stamping its street cred are 18-inch alloy wheels at each corner.
Inside, the Navara Sport Edition gives a more premium feel by getting leather on the steering wheel, shift knob, arm rest, and door trims. This already complements the generous list of equipment found in the standard model including Nissan's trademark powerful air conditioner with rear vents, premium sound system, and ergonomically designed seats.
Mechanically, the Navara Sport Edition isn't changed from the Navara VL. With that, it comes with a 2.5-liter turbo diesel engine. It produces plenty of grunt at 190 horsepower and 450 Nm of torque. All that is channeled through a 7-speed automatic to either the rear wheels or to all four wheels via a rotary-knob 4WD selector.
Apart from generous power, the Navara is a class on its own thanks to its sophisticated suspension system. Instead of using leaf springs, the Navara Sport Edition, like all other Navaras, use a multi-link rear suspension making it much more stable to drive and definitely more comfortable on any road condition.
All in all, the Navara Sport Edition plays nicely and smoothly. It's responsive when needs to be, but it can also be quiet with impressively low levels of NVH.
Off the beaten path, it performs equally well and is able to maintain its speed nicely. It gives a lot of confidence to the driver allowing the Navara Sport Edition to surpass most obstacles thrown its way.
