Top Gear PH's 2016 Stig Awards

Top Gear Philippines recently held the 2016 Stig Awards at the exclusive Prive Club in BGC.

The 10th generation Honda Civic brought home two Stig trophies for Car of the Year and Reader's Favorite titles garnering a total of 107 points.

Following the Civic is the Mitsubishi Montero. The Japanese midsize SUV finished with 95 points, impressing our panel with its comfortable ride, spectacular handling, and first-place finish in our five-way SUV Big Test earlier this year.

In third is the Nissan GT-R with 72 points. Fourth is the Mazda CX-3 with 40 points. The Toyota Fortuner in fifth with 26 points.

"Stig Awards - we only award two vehicles, tow cars. And that's the Top Gear Philippines Car of the Year and the Reader's Choice Award which is the online voting. For the Car of the Year, you choose a car that excites the market, revitalizes the brand and is relevant to the consumer. We did this so that sports car will not win every year kasi kung ganon, syempre sports car all the time. And those are the two awards we give to cars but the rest are awards that recognize the hard work and the excellence that the automotive industry does. For example, we award the Best in Corporate Social Responsibility, the Best in Consumer Test Drive and so on and so forth. When you go to the voting of the Top Gear Philippines-Car of the Year, you'll see that the votes tally have to - the Civic is the one that wins. And once again, it excites the market, it revitalizes the brand and it's relevant to the consumer. I guess you can say that it is validated by the readers choice which was done by online voting. It was a landslide for the Honda Civic so, congratulations to Honda for winning both of the two biggest awards tonight."
