Mitsubishi Motors Philippines and partner suppliers reaffirm participation to PH government's CARS

Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation (MMPC) in its commitment to the Comprehensive Automotive Resurgence Strategy (CARS) Program held a ceremony today to acknowledge local parts suppliers who will take major role in the local production of the Mirage and the Mirage G4 models beginning on January 2017. The Mirage and the Mirage G4 are among MMPC's bestselling models considering their outstanding value proposition, and fuel economy. Both models have also propelled MMPC to number 2 position in the passenger car category.

A total of twenty five suppliers were awarded the Certificate of Participation. This is just the first batch of suppliers who have firmed their involvement under MMPC's Local Parts Manufacturing Program. The awarding of the Certificate of Participation to the suppliers was headed by Mitsubishi Motors Corp. (MMC) General Manager for Philippine Business Office, Mr. Ken Kataoka, Mr. Toshihiro Ito, MMC Manager for Global Procurement Department, Sojitz Corp.'s Assistant General Manager, Mr. Junya Masuda and MMPC President and CEO, Mr. Yoshiaki Kato. Joining MMC, Sojitz Corp. and MMPC's executives on the awarding of the certificates were Department of Trade and Industry's Undersecretary Ceferino Rodolfo, Board of Investments' Governor Henry Co, Mr. Romulo Manlapig, Assistant Secretary & BOI CARS Program Director and Embassy of Japan Trade & Commercial Attache, Mr. Junichiro Suzuki.

This significant event marks another milestone as MMPC partakes in this government program. It can be recalled that last June 2016 the Department of Trade and Industry's Board of Investments approved MMPC's application to participate in the CARS Program. Following this approval, a ground breaking of the stamping shop soon was held at MMPC plant facilities at Sta. Rosa, Laguna. Last October, Mitsubishi Motors Corporation Chairman and CEO Osamu Masuko signed a Letter of Intent with the Philippine government dignitaries and witnessed by President Rodrigo Duterte during his Japan visit. The Letter of Intent reconfirms both parties' commitment to the CARS program and contribution to the Philippine auto industry under the Duterte administration. MMC has invested Php 4.3 billion to support this program.

MMPC's participation on the CARS Program is expected to significantly contribute to the local automotive industry and the economy. Under this program MMPC is poised to create more jobs not only for the company but also to its local parts suppliers. MMPC, just recently started it second shift operation in preparation to the soon local production of the Mirage and Mirage G4. A total of 500 assembly workers were hired to support this second shift operations. Additional manpower will be required when the stamping plant is operated by early 2018. MMPC is confident to produce world-class vehicles in its 21 hectares facilities located in Sta. Rosa, Laguna.
